2024 africa twin connection problem

Post by mikep »

Hey guys.
Just installed the xt2 and I'm having trouble getting turn by turn instructions to play consistently.
Using a Fodsport FX10 headset that has worked very well without the XT2. I have a 2024 africa twin adventure sport.
Any advice on how to connect the phone with carplay, headset and XT2 to play together will be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Hi @mikep and welcome to the forum.

I'm not familiar enough with carplay and headphones to be able to help. Typically the headset is paired to the XT2 as if the XT2 is a phone. The phone is then connected to the XT2.

But I don't think that any of that helps.

You can set up more than one phone on the XT2, and you can specify a separate music input device.

Someone will know whether it is possible to do what you want, now that you have posted and you have had a reply !
Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

Thanks for the response jf.
I've used the carplay and phone on the africa twin enough now to know how it works. Some of the features are cool, like listiening to music, using the africa twin controls to read text messages and answer the phone. It's just the limitations of using the phone as a gps that I don't care for especially where cell service is poor.

I'm kinda thinking that it's going to be the garmin xt2 or carplay , not both.
The xt2 sees the bike's BT and connects only briefly. For what ever reason it will not maintain a connection to the bike.
All I really want from the gps is the nice map and turn by turn instructions.

Next I'll try not using car play at all and see if I can get turn by turn instructions to the headset.

Any ideas?
thanks

I have a Garmin Zumo XT mounted on my 2020 ATAS and use a Cardo Packtalk bold not the unit you describe. When I connect my Packtalk bold I usually either set it up for the XT..(Phone connected to the XT Phone on Channel 1 PTB XT or Chanel 2 PTB) or Android auto (Phone Cable to Honda, PAcktalk Channel One to Honda.) .I was messing around with the packtalk and tried Honda Channel 1 and Zumo XT Chanel 2 and phone BT to XT and Cable from Phone to Honda. To my surprise I was able to hear both units as long as the connection sequence is Cardo on XT on Music on, on the phone (Spotify or Musicolet) Honda on. The Honda takes over the music meaning that you can use the Left cluster buttons to navigate the tracks. The XT cuts out the music to give navigation directions. Now here's the interesting bit. If you use google maps or My Route app you can also get these navigation instructions (though having both at the same time means that the XT mutes the AA navigation directions) or mute the XT and get navigation instructions from the Honda without having to reconfigure the Packtalk Bold. The advantage is you can switch from one navigation device to the other without a reconfigure.

I'm not sure how your Bluetooth device would react to this setup and even with the Packtalk its very sensitive to making all of the connections in the right sequence.

Thanks Mzokk.
The Fodsport headset may be my limiting factor. I'll try your sequence, but don't quite understand the channels you mention. My Fodsport has a bunch of mesh channels, but I don't know about selectable BT channels on any of my devices. I have an iPhone 12 that has reliably connected to other BT devices.

My XT2 (as with all garmin gps units, I think) wants to be the hub for all BT connections. That's in direct opposition to what the AT wants to control.
Anyway, for now I made fresh connections between the AT, headset and phone plugged into to AT. All handlebar controls work as it should, with google map turn by turn to the headset. The XT2 is not connected to anything, however it spits out assorted "BT not connected" error messages. But, functions solo without turn by turn directions.

If it's not obvious by now, this has me confused.

thanks for your input.
