Export Import waypoint/routes on SD Card

@jfheath - this is also a point, why i don't get the sense of the above actions of copying the gpx-files in a personal order to the sdcard of the Zumo XT!? Did the Zumo XT see all this single gpx-files with personal names?

I'm not sure what you mean. I'll provide some information and hope that it answers your question.

A single gpx file may contain many routes AND many waypoints AND many tracks.
Or it may contain just a single route OR just a single waypoint (a saved location) OR a single track.

When you select the menu item to import a route, the Zumo will look through every gpx file for any routes that it can find, and it will display the name of the route. Not the name of the gpx file. The XT will remember where it found each route so that when you select the route that you want to import, it doesn't have to look for it again.

Once the route has been imported it is added to the file called Current.gpx which is in Internal Storage/GPX.

When you use Trip Planner to select a route it displays them in date order. That is - it uses the date and the time that was assigned to the start point of the route in Basecamp. That facility no longer exists in many route planning programs, but the XT will sort the list in that order if it finds one.

Otherwise I Think that it may use your current location and list routes that are closest at the top. ( I cannot check this right now, so I may be wrong. I know it does this when displaying Waypoints (favourites / saved)

I would think, the Zumo XT will only import 'his' gpx-file in 'his' folder, or am i wrong (never have tested it)? If so, what helps me, if i have the file on the sdcard and the Zumo XT couldn't access it?

I think i have seen it find gpx files in subfolders, but I never investigated. It searches
the Internal Storage/gpx folder
and also the SD card/Garmin/gpx folder.

It has a bug when searching for waypoints /favourites / saved locations. It won't find them on the sd card if it doesn't find one in internal storage.

As 'real' backup the needed gpx-files would be better on the smartphone or in a cloud, so that i could access them with the phone and send them via Garmin Drive to the Zumo XT? Or am i completely wrong here?

One problem is that having put file gpx files onto the XT - internal Storage or the SD card, there is no way to delete them without connecting a USB cable. I don't know if you can do this from a phone with a special device ? Ive only ever done it from computer.

Garmin Drive will only store the gpx file in Internal Storage.

As i said - for a 'real' backup, when we are more than one day off with our motorbikes, i have the necessary gpx-files on my smartphone and the same files (routes/tracks/Waypoints) on the Zumo XTs sdcard, copied to it directly per drag-and-drop from within BaseCamp, so that i could import them quickly when needed...

That works. It is worth noting that the XT will import some data twice. So you might get another copy the route. It adds a digit to the latest version. Eg My Route 2. This is a problem if you use very long route names when you create the route - as the XT can only display so many characters. So you would not be able to tell which route was the newly imported one.

"This route name is really much too long" and "This route name is really much too long 2"
would both show as (say) "This route name is really m"

Keep your route names short.

Ah, ok! Still learning new things about my Zumo XT...

I always thought, the Zumo XT could only import waypoints/routes/tracks from the sdcard, which have the same name and from the same place as when saved with Basecamp! When i get it right after your posting, it seem's that the Zumo XT scans the 'Garmin\GPX' folder on the sdcard and offers all the gpx files he finds there for an import, right?

@Rofor, when writing .gpx files to the SD card, you can create your own directory structure in the \GPX directory on the card. When you ask the XT to import, it will crawl through that entire directory structure and list every route that it finds as available for import. I works the same for tracks.
