Cannot Load Maps on Boot

I have a friend in America who reports:

When I first boot up the XT in the morning for a ride, I almost always get, "Cannot Load Maps".

I've never seen this - has anyone else come across it / found a solution ?

I've asked him to check MyMaps, and untick everything, and then systematically tick each one in turn and reboot to see if it is any one particular map that is causing the problem.

Other than that, I am lost.

I have never seen "Cannot load maps". His tone indicates that he eventually gets it to work. If so, does he provide any detail about how he gets it working?

If he is using Garmin maps (CN NA NT), is a reinstall via Express worthy of consideration?

Sounds like he has multiple maps installed. Which map is causing the message? If a third party map he needs to delete it, if the Garmin CN map then as suggested a reinstall is the first thing to try.

The message I was given was incorrect.

'Cannot unlock maps' is what it actually says!
Ive directed him to tech support for that one.

I got the impressiont that this was a new unit with software as is. But that might be my assumption and anything could have taken place. Always a good idea to go back to the reset everything / reinstall maps. ALway dangerous to make assumptions.

I'll pass it on.
