XT Shutdown message on lost power

Post by Scottnet »

My XT is powered by the ignition switch.

I find it very odd that every time when I turn my bike ignition off the XT starts to look for updates. This is very inappropriate, for example outside a cafe in the rain, or the top of a mountain looking at the view. If I click cancel then I have to fumble for the power switch turn it off.

It seems even disabling wifi does not change this behaviour

The Zumo 660 gives a simple message. Do you want to shut down? Yes/No

Is there a way to get the XT to do the same?

Thanks
Scott

I don't know the answer. Mine is powered by the ignition switch and doesn't do that - I just get a message and it will turn off if I don't respond.

So I looked for settings that may be the culprit.
Is it the setting for Device Data Reporting under 'Settings -> Device'. Mine is not ticked.

That's all I have.

Today, I discovered something really important. I found another way that doesn't work.

Mine does the same! looks for updates then turns off and I agree there is no need for it to do that

I have changed that setting but it made no difference

I'll have to look more closely. I've probably just thought - "Oh No you're not", and turned it off. I don't bother reading it now.

Today, I discovered something really important. I found another way that doesn't work.

Interesting is that even if you disable WiFi it still does this.

Yes if you think it's stupid you should tell them.

Same here. I just ignore it.
My old TomTom used to come up with a message saying that power had been disconnected and it would go to sleep in 8 seconds. You had the option to just let it do that or push the on screen Turn Off button. To me that seems a more sensible option as if you know you are only stopping to say get fuel sleep is okay but if you have arrived home and won't use the GPS for another week you can use the turn off option.
I have assumed that if the Garmin finds an update it just queues it for future installation. I hope that it does not automatically start the download process.
