The TRACK in the .gpx contains over 18000 track points. Tracks for the XT cannot exceed 15000 track points. Thanks, the MTP setting was the issue, USB Ethernet was selected (whatever that is). Time before defaulting to file transfer mode is now a slightly more reasonable 20 seconds.
