Re: How do you preserve a track's shape when adding waypoints?
In Garmin-speak, a Waypoint is only a set of coordinates. The shape of the route is changing because you are making the waypoint a part of the route. Instead, in Basecamp, leave it as a standalone point, Open it and assign a proximity distance , then transfer it to the GPS along with the route. At ...

Re: Combined BC Map and Dialogue table.
The table will stay open, but hidden if the Map occupies the main window, and vice versa. I was hoping to have the Route dialogue box and Map both visible on the one screen, Split possibly. Thank you. Mikey The route table always has a separate window, there is no way to show it as a frame within ...

Re: Combined BC Map and Dialogue table.
The map will reflect changes made in the route table. The table will stay open and reflect changes made in the map window with the hand(pan) tool. So the map can be panned, zoomed, the route dragged around on the map, via/shaping points added (depending on drop location) or moved - all while the ...

Re: Garmin Explorer stuck when uploading large .gpx file
The TRACK in the .gpx contains over 18000 track points. Tracks for the XT cannot exceed 15000 track points. I've never used gpx.studio, but I would look for a setting to restrict the number of points. Or simply split the track into two shorter tracks. It looks like it is too long to comfortably ...

Re: New route created without Start/End waypoints
A route requires a Via point at start and end. Waypoints can be Via or Shaping points in a route, but they are not essential components of a route. John explains the differences better: https://www.zumouserforums.co.uk/app.php/ZXT-P04 I keep waypoints to a minimum, I don't need them cluttering up ...

Re: Changes in USB→PC connection behavior?
Thanks, the MTP setting was the issue, USB Ethernet was selected (whatever that is). Time before defaulting to file transfer mode is now a slightly more reasonable 20 seconds.
Add this to the list of things Garmin never explains or documents.

Changes in USB→PC connection behavior?
Just want to point out a couple oddities concerning a change in XT to PC connections... When I connect my USB cord, I am accustomed to it starting (if it is off), then warning it will use file transfer mode unless I cancel. A few months back, I noticed that connecting the USB cable would only turn ...

Re: Making changes to a BC route on a Zumo XT
The only logic that I can see is that it followed the numbered state highway ignoring that it ran through the town at 20 mph. I've noticed this "logic" also. A numbered highway is often preferred to a named road, a two-digit numbered route is preferred to a three-digit route, even if the result is ...

Re: Making changes to a BC route on a Zumo XT
Frankly, thanks in part to the questions posed on this forum, I probably spend more time with the XT at my desk than I do riding. With frequent resets, I doubt the XT has been able to discover any habits. I was returning from an errand and the XT actually avoided the shorter, quicker route it used ...

Re: Garmin Explorer stuck when uploading large .gpx file
That track is large, but with 13249 track points it should still be within the XT limits of 15000 points per track. I think there is something else wrong in the gpx formatting, as Basecamp will not load the track: 2025-04-10 20_13_12-Garmin BaseCamp.jpg I even edited the gpx, removing all but a ...
