Changes in USB→PC connection behavior?

Just want to point out a couple oddities concerning a change in XT to PC connections...

When I connect my USB cord, I am accustomed to it starting (if it is off), then warning it will use file transfer mode unless I cancel.

A few months back, I noticed that connecting the USB cable would only turn on the XT in normal operating mode. I now need to let the XT start, unplug and wait for the "power lost" warning, then plug in again before the file transfer option will appear.

I was going to ask if anyone really waited this long to automatically go into file transfer mode, but I guess no XT has actually been available for 68 years.

That is odd indeed. Mine still works normally (ie: booting up, presenting the warning screen, then showing the USB connection detected screen with "Entering file transfer mode in 19".

Check in the hidden Developer menu the 'Configuration and Settings' / 'MTP Settings'. My guess is that it is not 'MTP Auto Detect'

Thanks, the MTP setting was the issue, USB Ethernet was selected (whatever that is). Time before defaulting to file transfer mode is now a slightly more reasonable 20 seconds.

Add this to the list of things Garmin never explains or documents.

Developing TripManager I did some experimenting with these settings. I found no use for changing the default, but recognised the symptoms from your screenshot,
I DO wonder what kind of device you would need for the 'USB Ethernet' setting. But some things remain a mystery...
