I've just re-read my reply on 13 May, where I tested the Tyre program. I spotted a number of times where I referred to 'Tread' and I actually meant 'Tyre'. I've corrected those errors.
You need to be aware that any gpx file that is sent to the XT2 will have serious navigation issues in certain circumstances.
Most of these issues can be solved on the XT2 by using the on-screen 'Copy' facility. Make a copy, give it a new name and navigate using the copy, rather than the original. This makes the XT2 think of the route as having been created on the XT2 itself.
To explain this, jfheath wrote:Imported routes typically display the following behaviours in my tests - usually after the route has been recalculated - eg after Skip.
- If you deviate from the magenta plotted route, the XT2 does not find a way to reach the next route point. Instead it seems to find a way to get to the closest point of its route - which often is behind you - the point where it asked you to turn back. Repeat this, and its new section of route is behind you, and it heads for that. This can go on for miles and in my tests it was still wanting me to turn back and cover 28 miles to get to the original magenta line which was just 2 miles ahead. I called this 'RUT' behaviour.
- Any time after a 'Skip', if you have to miss a shaping point or a via point, the zumo will not demand that you go back to it. Instead it seems to plot a route to the closest point ahead. The missed route points are then removed from the route.
Using the Copy of the route prevents these issues, and it is a handy fix if you already have the route in your XT2 or if you do not have a PC computer.
A neater solution is offered by
@FrankB's program called 'TripManager'. Available for PC computers for free on this forum. You use it to get your gpx file into the XT2 route menus, without having to import.
Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !
