Re: Travelling to Canada?

Newfoundland is much bigger than most people realize. A few days there would still be awesome but you won't see much of the island. I spent a week on Newfoundland a couple of years ago and I spent all of that on the west coast between Port aux Basque and St Anthony.

Re: Rookie questions

"This experience makes me believe that perhaps one can't rely solely on the GPS/Basecamp map display when attempting to plot an off-tarmac route. It would seem that the ability to establish a route with waypoints doesn't guarantee that the means for navigating through those points is actually availa...

I have the route laid out, day by day..numbered sequentially and named. One of the people who uses basecamp locally told me to put a waypoint at every place where I turn from one road or highway to another..seems a tad excessive to me.Whats th3 opinion of the wise ones here?
No - just no!

Re: Radius Rings

I don't recall MS having anything like you describe but the proximity alert would show a ring around the waypoint.

Basecamp does provide for creating avoidance areas as you described although it does not provide circles, rather rectangular areas.

Re: City Navigator North America NT 2020.2 concerns

Regarding street addresses IIRC the 660 uses logical addressing, assigning areas to a block of numbered addresses. The precise address within a particular block of addresses can be quite far off. Newer gps units in North America use point addressing, assigning precise locations to individual address...

Re: Mileage discrepancies

There are several issues that can cause the route to differ on the GPS. Are your maps, preferences and avoidances the same on the GPS and in Basecamp? Are you using the same routing profile? The more important underlying question is how do you get them to be the same? First, use the same map, have a...

Re: Way Points and Via Points

I have never experienced what you describe, but I generally would not place the via point at an intersection where I was turning. I would place the via point either at the preceding intersection or the succeeding intersection. Bridges and overpasses are not intersections so I wouldn't place a via po...

Re: Way Points and Via Points

So if I make a route, convert it to a track then back into a route with only two points the start and finish do you think the Sat Nav will follow the route as its on the device or will it re-route it the most direct way. Guess it'll be trial and error, I'll need to make some routes and try them. Th...

Re: Do Lifetime Maps go with a used 595?

The lifetime maps do transfer with the unit. I would avoid the term "forever" though as that is not Garmin's definition of lifetime.

Re: 590 and wired headset

Can you just plug the earbuds into the Sena? I use sound isolating earbuds with a Sena and works great.
