XT2: Section 5 - What Goes Wrong
5.05 - Test Route 03 - Wpt / Sh Pt
The Route - Test 03 - 8 Waypoints
- Route created as a GPX file and place in Interal Storage/GPX folder
- 8 Waypoints Created and Saved. The route was built using the sabed waypoints. Same coordinates are used for al tests.
- 2 Via Points (start and end), 6 shaping points
- All Route points given a name starting a number 01, .... , 08.
- The XT2 is linked to the Tread App
The Tests
- To see if route point names change
- To see if the route changes
- To see whether route points move
- To observe different behaviour between Via and Shaping Point
- To see if using Waypoints makes any difference.
- To observe any differences if Tread is involved.
The Results
- Pic 1: Shows the original data compared with the XT2 list immediately after import.
- Pic 1: All of the shaping points have retained the name allocated to the waypoints
- Pic 2: Route points and waypoint (triangles) are plotted in the same place - The shaping point is located at the top of the Waypoint Triangle.
- Zoom in (not shown): Reveals a slight difference in lat/long coordinates
- Pic 2: The route has not altered.
Pic 1: Test Route 03 - All Waypoints: 2 Via and 6 Shaping
Note that the Zumo insists that points 01 and 08 are set as Vias.
The list of 2 Via and 6 Shaping Points created in Basecamp
The XT2 list showing the same 2 Via and 6 Shaping Points
Pic 2: Map of Test Route 03 - Waypoints set mainly as Shaping Points
Test Route 03 - All Waypoints - 2 Vias, 6 Shaping Points - Tread Active
Ater Synching Route 03 with Tread.
- The Route was imported and allowed to synch
- The route was created from 8 previously saved Waypoints.
- The shaping points originated as waypoints and are included as part of the route.
- The start and end points have to be set as Via Points.
- Not all syncronisation happens immediately so I waited and then forced synch on the phone app AND on the XT2.
- Waited for at least two orange Explore synch symbols and two blue circle synch symbols
- Android Tread version 3.00.06 17 Feb 2026
The Results - Tread Active
- Pic 3: Shows that name changes have occured - different from the test without Tread.
- Pic 4: Shows that all shaping points have moved relative to the original waypoints.
- Pic 4: Shows that the route has moved onto the motorway away from the original A6
- Pic 5: Shows that 3 shaping points have been moved from the A6 onto the M6. This implies that the original waypoints are no longer part of the route.
- The route has changed substantially.
Pic 3: Test Route 03 - All Waypoint - 2 Vias, 6 Shaping - Tread Active
The BC Route list showing the 8 Waypoints set as either via or shaping.
The XT2 list showing the same 2 Via and 6 Shaping Points - all
Pic 4: Test Route 03 - Map showing route from point 02.
All 6 shaping points are now located in a different place from their original waypoints. Significantly so. It takes a detailed look to see how this may have affected the routess. See Pic 5.
Pic 5: Test Route 03 - Detail of Shaping Points 04 & 05
The same route, zoomed in on points 04 and 05. Both of these points have moved onto the motorways, the original waypoints are no longer on the route.
