Post by bald biker »

Hi, I was updating the zumo when it slipped and I think has broken a pin in the micro usb slot. Can I get this repaired in the uk.

If it's just the USB port then most electronics places would be able to repair it

Ok got usb sorted but it will not charge or come on through usb or cradle. The guy that repaired said either the battery has shorted or the voltage regulator on the motherboard. Is this toast or will garmin repair .

What does it do with the battery removed?

Sounds like the main board then. There might be some input protection that may have limited the damage but you won’t know until you open it up.
I’d check with Garmin first, see if they’ll repair it.

Just thinking again, if it was only impact damage, it can’t have done too much damage to the internals. If the connector repair has been done correctly then that can only mean input protection has taken a hit (when the connections moved). If Garmin won’t touch it, don’t bin it...

I'm going to try to call garmin in Southampton tomorrow. Depending on the age of the unit they may swap for a recon unit at a price.
