Connecting Zumo 396 and Samsung S23

Post by Grabcon »

My wife purchased a new Zumo 396 and has an android Samsung S23 phone. All software is updated. Her phone connects via bluetooth to the 396. We installed Garmin Drive app and the app will not connect to the Zumo 396.

I did not have this difficulty connecting my iphone14 to my Zumo XT. No I have not tried to connect my iPhone to the 396.

Any thought from the folks on this forum on what we can do to get connected?

Well I thought I deleted this post but I guess not.

So to be clear as I found in another post, the 396 does not support Garmin Drive for untethered file transfer. After finding this post I did get file transfer to work using the bluetooth sharing function of the two devices. Clunky yes but it works.

Everybody has their own method of preparing for rides/trips. On trips I prepare all routes along with fuels stops and lodging/camping in advance. This is the way my wife prefers to travel. By myself I prepare the route and worry about the rest later. The wife likes to have the route on her GPS navigator, which is fine, but I need to be able to move gpx files on an as needed basis. I typically make one route for each day of riding. Example: Last summer when we did our big trip, 5800 miles 35 days there were lot of files to manage. I store the files on my iCloud Drive and used Garmin Drive to load the XT and then a USB SD card to load her 660LM. It worked fine. Now with the 660 going south I had hoped for a wireless solution for the same process. I think this will work using bluetooth sharing with the 396 but there are a lot of steps, not hard just a lot of steps.

Any thoughts on a better solution without purchasing more equipment would be appreciated.

As a note I am not a fan of using the phone for navigation. I am a believer in keeping the phone on my person in case of an unexpected departure from the MC.
