Re: Update to XT taking forever

Updating is the only thing the XT can do over wifi.
My XT's wifi is disabled. I prefer to control when updates are applied.

Me too. The last update I did over wi-fi was invisible to Garmin Express. The device showed the new map, Basecamp saw it, but GE didn't. I was weird, and enough of an aggravation to disable wi-fi.

I would have liked the option to transfer routes, track, tracklogs etc. via WIFI, but sadly that is not available. I never understood the need to do updates over WIFI.
Re: Update to XT taking forever
The Garmin Express FAQ for issues with updating states:
Ensure Your Internet Connection Meets the System Requirements for Garmin Express:
A home high-speed Internet connection such as DSL or cable is required to use Garmin Express.
Using a public Wi-Fi, work computer, or work network can introduce obstacles.
Garmin Express is not intended to be used with mobile broadband (such as a 4G/LTE or 5G MiFi, AirCard, or cell phone tethering), satellite, fixed wireless, or dial-up Internet connections.
When using Wi-Fi, ensure you have a strong signal. You may need to move the computer closer to the Wi-Fi router, or try using a computer connected to an Ethernet cable instead.
This is why updates over wifi often fail.
Re: Update to XT taking forever
My XT is weird when it comes to downloading updates via WiFi. I can't explain it, but if I have Bluetooth enabled, the download never seems to happen. If I toggle Bluetooth OFF, then updates download and install in a fairly reasonable amount of time.Chopperbob wrote: ↑18 Jan 2025 15:58 Started this morning at abt 1100 an update, it is now 1700 hrs and there are still 12hrs to go….

I have no idea why it behaves that way, but that's been my experience.
