ARE THERE ANY MAC USERS?

Post by Frogman1 »

Are there any Mac users? Why can't both my laptop and desktop not see the XT2? It sees my Nav6 and old 550. It sees the XT2 with Garmin Express. But nothing comes up under "locations"? I've tried 10 different USB-C cables. Garmin has made this gps a pain to use.

I run a mac desktop with the OS Sonoma 14.6.1. Make sure that the Type C cable is both data and charge. A lot of the cables are charge only

Can you use Basecamp with your Mac and the XT2?

Long-time Mac user here and I use Basecamp with my XT (not XT2) and can get as deep into its Android file system as I want using the free OpenMTP. From what I read here, all this works fine with the XT2, despite Garmin’s claim that BC is not compatible. Apparently, some features of the XT2 cannot be invoked by BC, but regular route planning works just fine.

Be sure you are using a USB cable that sends signal over all its wires and that you are not running Garmin Express in the background when trying to launch BC.

Why doesn't my Mac mini or MacBook read the XT2. It does not show up under "Location"? Thus I can not transfer a route to the XT2? I tried 10 different USB-c cables, all with the same result.

@Frogman1 did you ever get the XT2 connected to your mac? I am having issues as well... A year or so ago it worked but not now, I'm sure there have been software updates along the way. I downloaded OpenMTP which connects fine, but have not found all the routes currently loaded on the Garmin.

I thought there was a post here somewhere talking about enabling view of .system folder but can't seem to find it again. I thought I did that last round of troubleshooting, but perhaps not... Have to say this thing is pretty annoying. 20 years ago maybe it was 'ok' to fuss with making connections, but now adays??? Something seems very wrong.

Well... looks like I was just too impatient. After shutting down OpenMTP I noticed that the transfer options were (still) greyed out in BaseCamp so I unplugged the XT2 and plugged it back it. Went through the menu options to connect to computer after it rebooted. Nothing seemed to be happening so I went on to some other task on monitor 1... Out of the corner of my eye it seemed like BaseCamp fickered or something (monitor 2) and sure enough the transfer options are now there.

Oh, I was doing a system report from 'About this Mac' to see if the Zumo was showing up on the USB bus... It really sorta was for sure because OpenMTP could see it, but was checking anyway to see if there might be some other clue. Anyway, now to sort the rather primative interfaces to see if I can recall how I pushed tracks/routes from the BaseCamp to the XT2.
