Reversed polarity problem

Post by Nickk »

Hi all
So after my covid jab I thought I would wire up my new zumo xt.
I hang my head in shame. Not concentrating I have managed to put 12v directly through the bike mount but with reversed polarity. The screen on the xt went off and will now not turn on.
I guess I have fried it?
Any suggestions (apart from getting someone compotent to have done it in the 1st place)
Thanks

We have all done something similar at some point in our lives!

I would call these guys, they may be able to save it https://satnavrepairservice.com/

I would have thought it would have reverse Polarity protection.

Have you tried pluggging it into a USB socket. Or a computer?

Worth a try.

As mentioned, plug into USB? Did you try a reset, hold the power button for at least 20 seconds?

Color me surprised that the wiring kit doesn't have any protection against reversing the polarity! You didn't remove the part of the kit which reduces the voltage from 12v to 5v, did you? Did you really put 12v into the back of the GPS, or only into the wiring kit (which was then connected to the XT)?

The guy said : Not concentrating I have managed to put 12v directly through the bike mount but with reversed polarity - so we can assume it went through the power cable.
