Is there a way to search a Basecamp Library?
I have many "Lists" and "List Folders" in my Basecamp Library window. Currently I need to scroll through the various Lists and Folders to find the data I want to work on. Is there any way to search for a List or List Folder name to eliminate the need to scroll through the alphabetized list in the Library window?

Re: Is there a way to search a Basecamp Library?
The Library list works similarly to a Windows File Explorer list in that once an item is selected in the list, typing letters will jump to the corresponding list item. In my case I have a folder named "South Dakota" in my Basecamp Library list so I can click on "My Collection" and then type "so" and it will jump to the "South Dakota" folder. Different from a File Explorer behavior is the fact that I can then type "co" and it will jump up to my "Colorado" folder, "lo" will then jump me to my "Local Rides" folder, etc.

I don't seem to have anything called My Collection. The top of my hierarchy is Dropbox, within which are folders such as Car Trips and Crete containing lists. And where do you start typing? You'll gather I'm somewhat bemused!

Perhaps you are using a different database than "Default" although I would expect this feature to work regardless of the database. This would mean that a single click on "Dropbox" followed by typing "ca" should jump you to the first folder that starts with "ca". There is no field in which you type. You just activate the list pane by clicking on one of the folders and then type.

At the bottom of the lower left hand pane, there is a search and filter facility.
I don't think it can be turned off - but the features are listed in the View Menu as well. Data Filter.
The search box appears above the filters - which allow you to see just waypoint, just routes, just tracks etc. Also Everything.

Re: Is there a way to search a Basecamp Library?
@Peobody Ah - thank you! It only works on one letter, though. I type "T" and I get the first folder or list beginning with T. Type "A" and I get the first folder or list starting with A. Alternatively, type "T" a second time and I get the second folder or list starting with T.
@jfheath For once this was something I knew, thanks.

Hmmm - we were looking at the same thing in different ways. You were both talking about something that was unfamiliar to me. I seemed to be talking about something which didn't make sense to you. So I went about experimenting.
It seems that there are a couple of different search modes - single character, and text string
This is the single character mode, that you described, - and I had never spotted before.
I'll post a video - it might be useful to future readers. Best viewed in full screen. For some reason the first few seconds are a bit low-res and fuzzy. It sharpend up at about 11 seconds in.
Apologies - the last part shows a large drop down list, most of which was chopped off as it dropped down below the Basecamp window - which is what I had used to set the recorded screen area. You can see part of it, and you will see it for yourself if you try it out.

- If the last place you clicked was in a list folder. Then when you tap a key it finds the first place in that folder that starts with that character.
Tap the same key again, it continues searching down the folder for the next entry that starts with that characters. If it reaches the end of the folder, it moves to the next. So the selection of the entry in the Library doesn't restrict the search to that folder. It marks the starting point of the search.
Tapping a different key changes the search to search for that single character instead. But from the current position of the highlighted entry in the folder structure.
- If you place the mouse cursor in the search box so that the vertical insertion point is flashing, and start typing, then you can enter a string of characters, and it pops up a window which gives all of the available options. Or you can keep typing and the pop up window gets smaller.
It only produces results that start with the characters that you type. It doesn't search within the names.

Re: Is there a way to search a Basecamp Library?
Thanks, John. Re the last part - I can't see where to see what other lists the waypoint appears in, if that's what you meant, but hovering over, or clicking on, the waypoint in the map yields a list of all the routes in which that waypoint features. That's a new one on me, and useful!
