Here's a how to for connecting the XT to basecamp on a mac:
1. Quit Garmin Basecamp and Garmin Express if they are running.

2. Right Click on the black triangle on the top right corner of your display...on the ribbon bar, choose Preferences and UNCHECK both options.

I wanted to use my Zumo XT for a month long car trip with my wife to Newfoundland this summer, but couldn’t stomach the price of Garmin’s car mount kit. Here’s my solution-

Same, I just use the tripmeters instead. Plus my gas gauge flashes once it reaches 'reserve'.

I wouldn't use the Zumo's usb port on the motorcycle (if that's what you're doing).
Doing that can break the Zumo's usb port.
In the car I've found a 2.1 amp usb adaptor or a garmin 12 volt to usb cable (like a Nuvi cable) works.

It's listed as a separate, 'initial release' in Garmin Express

Yes... The Zumo XT will provide you with greater coverage than cellular service because it is receiving its signal via satellite, rather than cell phone towers. It even does a remarkable job in fairly dense tree coverage.

You could try Open street maps on the XT and see if that's a better solution for you.

I found on the Advrider Zumo XT thread that the XT also has a history that records tracks in a light blue colour (color :) ). Goto Map&Vehicle> Map layers> and check travel history.
The problem is all your tracks are on the screen. To clear your history (& wipe out all your previous track history ...

When that happened to me (by user error) I was able to re-install the Map on the XT using WiFi (Wireless) update. In other words not using garmin express.

If that failed I guess the option of last resort is to load Open Street Maps on your XT and use them for your trip.
