Re: 660 newb could use some advice...

I had some trouble with the first SD card I used in the 595. With the second, I did not attempt to format it. I simply placed it in the device and turned it on. The device asked if I wanted to format, I chose yes and it did the rest. That way I know it's formatted to Garmin's needs. No troubles with...

Re: Basecamp a bit clunky

I use google maps regularly to check for dirt roads (BC sux at this) and to get a street level view of a meetup or destination but use BC for mapping. I find it smooth as butter to use. I very rarely use google earth.

Re: 660 newb could use some advice...

Not a 660 but both nuvi and my 595 allow for music to be placed on and played from that same SD card. The nuvi had to have mp3 format, it would not play Win format, so I just carried that over to my 595. All the music I put on my SD card was already mp3 format so I have no idea if the 595 is queer a...

Re: The invisible unit

It may not be the device or the cable at all. I went through this when I first tried to connect my then-new 595LM to my Toshiba laptop. It would charge but neither Windows or Base Camp would recognize it as a mass storage device as it normally should. Turns out my laptop has 3 usb ports and only 1 w...

Re: is it just me....?

No, it's not just you. I believe the more Garmin makes a device capable of doing, the less it does well. I used a "car" nuvi for a lot of years. It had more hardware features, less software features and did everything I asked of it flawlessly. I thought I was moving up by buying a very expensive, wa...

Re: Border and/or State crossings indicator in Zumo?

Does the Zumo 590 have a spot on the screen that lets you instantly view what country you are in or what state you are in? It would be so handy to have either a toggle button for this or an area on the upper right side of the screen (for example) to show it. Not that I've found. I've wondered the s...

Re: Happy New Year

Yeah, me too! Looking forward to some but not as many trips. My regular riding buddy is getting up in years and says no more long trips for him. Oh well, we do what we do. I'm thinking maybe if we relaxed more and did fewer miles/shorter days he'll still come out to play. OTOH one of my bar buddies ...

Re: Cant see the route

Yeah, I remember asking this very question. Turn on your 595. Touch Settings. Touch Map & Vehicle. Touch Map Layers. Untick the Up Ahead Places box. Touch Save. Done. To exit all the way back touch and hold the semicircle arrow.

Re: Base amp with 595lm and 550

Hmmmm, interesting question. I've not heard of anyone doing it but on the surface I would think that updating Base Camp to the latest for the 595 and then selecting in the toolbar which version to use might work. We're a bit lucky in that both my wife and I own laptops so I think I'd do different co...
