Where are favourites stored - bulk remove

Post by mastercore »

Hi,
I want to clean out most of the favourites in my device and thought the simplest way was to plug in the XT to my PC and delete them from the appropriate folder.
I found a folder called POI but no Favourites.
The entries in POI are not what I see in Favourites on the XT.

Can anyone offer any tips for me?
Thx

Where to - Favourites - top left (=) - Delete Favourites - Select all - Bingo!

You can't delete them via your PC unless the XT is different to all the other Zumos. You need to delete them via your Zumo menu, no doubt someone with a XT can correct me if wrong but try where to, favourites then tap the 3bar icon top left. Should then have a delete option.

Favourites FYI are contained in current.gpx in the GPX folder but it's a one way copy, deleting it will not delete the data used by your device which is in memory only accessible via the menu on your XT

Edit: reply given while I was typing :D

Ok guys I found the delete all for the favorites - thanx

Was hoping for more a scalpel approach rather than the sledge hammer.

sussamb you mention the current.gpx file. Has anyone tried to edit this file and reload it via PC?
Could this be a more nuanced way of wittling down the massive list of favourites?
I will give it a try and see otherwise.
Hope to add my findings here...

(but my time runs out before my tour. May end up taking a sledge hammer to the favorites after all)

You don't have to select Delete all, you can select which ones to delete.

Editing current.gpx will have no effect. As I posted above it's a one way copy, your device doesn't read from it.

so the current.gpx is a file intended for the user to be able to download the favourites - as a backup for example?

There are no favourites in a gpx file, gpx is for routes and tracks. Favourites are gpi on a Zumo. and store in POI map.

That's wrong. POIs are in a .gpi file, favourites in .gpx files

My workflow:
 • copy all your favourites to (a new folder) in Basecamp.
 • in basecamp I use the 'scalpel' to remove (sometimes in bulk) what I want to remove.
 • use the 'sledge hammer' to delete everything in your gps device.
 • copy the refined list from Basecamp to your device.
this works for me, and I also end up with a backup of my favorites with no extra effort this way.
