POI Icon on the XT

Post by Andrew_XT »

Hi to all.

I have a personal POI list, i use POI Loader.

When i put the list on the XT i look all the POI whit the same icon, the blue flag.

There is a possibiliti to personalize the icon?

For example the parking have the blue flag whit the "P"

Thanks

Not sure if this will work for POIs, but I had the same problem with waypoints that were embedded in a GPX file and imported into the XT as a part of a track import from Basecamp. They wouldn't display on the screen when the track was made visible. Also, when I would look up those waypoints to navigate to them, they were also just blue flags. It wasn't really working the way that any other Garmin device had ever worked for me in the past when importing tracks.

The solution for me was utilizing the Garmin Explore App to import the track into the XT. When I use the Explore App, the waypoints show on the screen when the track is displayed, and the correct image is displayed for the waypoint. This is pretty important for adventure rides when you want to communicate a dangerous section, a water crossing, a gas stop, the start of an advanced section, etc. with the type of icon.

You can do it in explore. Import poi there and change the icon.

It works.

Thank you so much.

The only trouble for me is that i have any POI list with more than 500 elements, the limit that Explore have. Now i have to split it.

Don't use Explore if you are adding Custom POIs with POI Loader.

Talking about Custom POIs not Saved Waypoints:
You can use custom icons with POIs. You need to create or download the custom icon you want to use, and save it in the same folder you have saved your POIs. It would be saved as bitmap file (.bmp) This is very important: it's must be named exactly the same as the poi gpx (or csv) file, including all capitalization. An example would be:
Lighthouses - US.gpx
Lighthouses - US.bmp

Then, when you run POI Loader it would add the custom icons to the POI file and the custom icon would be displayed for each of the POIs of that type.

I do not have an XT, I have a 595 zumo. I have/been having issues with my waypoints not showing up. The pain staking task of covering them all over to be loaded as POIs is a PITA

So, can this be done on my 595 as well?
