Basecamp 4.7.0 / 4.7.2 - unlock maps issue City Navigator Europe NTU 2021.1

I just updated my maps on Zumo 590 LTM to City Navigator Europe 2021.1 using Garmin Express to download the update.
When I tried to use the new map in Basecamp (4.7.0) it asked me to unlock it - standard procedure, but when I clicked to unlock online the webpage said that there is no longer a wizard available to unlock the map online.
I then updated Basecamp to 4.7.2 to see if that made any difference. The City Navigator Europe 2021.1 map still shows as locked, but now there is no 'Unlock Online' button at all.
The Garmin support pages don't help - does anyone know what I need to do to unlock the map so I can use it in Basecamp 4.7.2 ?

Just use Express to install the map to your PC.

I have installed the map to the PC using Garmin Express.
The problem is that when I start Basecamp it shows that the map is locked, and won't display any detailed mapping for it.
I can't see a way to unlock the map on the PC (it works fine on my Zumo 590).

That is strange. In that case uninstall the map via control panel and then reinstall it.

Yes, I will try that once Garmin Express servers are back online - it seems the outage they are having is a major one - I can't even contact their technical support by phone.

It is, they've had a ransomware attack so may be a while

So, I managed to download the City Navigator Europe NTU 2021.1 map again to my PC using Garmin Express. Seemed to install OK and Garmin Express said it 'activated' the map.
However, when I open Basecamp the 2021.1 map remains locked - and no option to unlock.
Tried calling the UK technical support line but was advised of a 20 minute plus wait to talk to someone, so will try again later.
It's very frustrating!

Just finished a call to Garmin UK technical support.
Seems that it is no longer an option to download maps to a PC (and presumably a Mac) for use in Basecamp - you have to use the maps that have been installed on your Garmin device instead.
Result: the whole process of planning trips has just got a lot slower, and you have to have the Garmin device connected to the PC in order to use the map in Basecamp.
Maybe this is understandable in terms of preventing copyright breach, but really?

Sorry but whoever you spoke to is talking rubbish, I have the latest US and EU maps on my PC and BaseCamp uses them without a problem.

I have just totally uninstalled basecamp and all maps then reinstalled everything with no issues whatsoever!
