Is the XT able to read USA maps on EU device?
Wonder if it’s locked by device region

Oh. To be clearer I wonder if it can read my unlocked NT maps of other regions from other Garmin Devices.

I understand it only reads NTU maps

Not from other Garmin devices as they are locked to the device, unless you aren't talking about CN maps?

Just read from this q&a that the XT can probably only use the Map it’s shipped with.
Any other region may not work even if purchased from Garmin.

The only alternative is to use Osm maps I think. Am I right?

No, not quite.
The XT can obviously use OSM maps, It uses Garmin maps, in 'NTU' format. If you purchase a new 'NTU' map for a different geographic region, to the one that the original XT unit was shipped with, your XT will be able to use it.

Maps shipped with other Garmin units, or unlocked to other units will only ever work on the original unit.

To clarify the XT requires Garmin 'NTU' format maps.
