I thought about making a tether, and never got around to it. Since getting the Zumo XT I've taken two week-long trips on my FJR - one to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, another to the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, for a total of just over 6,000 miles. The only issues I had was the damned thing locking up on 3 separate occasions, requiring me to reach behind and hold the button down for a half minute to reboot it. That sucked doing it while riding "The Dragon" (129 in TN). The power connection always worked, and the thing never popped off of the mount. As for theft prevention - I always just removed it and popped it into the Givi trunk in the back - much more secure than locking it to the mount (someone could, after all, just undo the RAM mount from the ball and it's theirs to keep).

Designed and had 3D Printed a lock clip - printing was PLA (FDM) 75% strength. M3 thumb screw or M3 domed bolt will self thread once screwed in and the release button on the Garmin mount does not move, even when the screw is not fully engaged. Not a perfect fit due the tight gap between the release button and the Zumo; it will also not work with the 3D Printed mount covers out there. Working well for me and just gives a little more piece of mind and security when stopped.

To act as a deterrent and make it harder to be stolen, I decided to make a simple and cheap solution.
The idea is that the clip can't be pushed down to release the XT from the mount, plus I added a tether for extra security.
Took about a hour to make , a bit crude but effective , if anyone interested in how it's made let me know.

Woody, did you post how you made your XT security lock? I would love to imitate that.

Nice idea. I don't have a 3D printer, but I think I could make something similar with a bit of aluminum and a Dremel, maybe a little bigger to accommodate a small luggage lock.

Welcome @motomushu .

Is that zip tie wrapped around the release catch to prevent it from being pressed down ?
