My XT is a fair age. The battery is failing. It shows low battery what ever the charge but does last about an hour.
I very rarely use the battery but jsut needed to hear some experience about what happens when the battery get low or dead?
I have read about the device going into revolving boot loops!

My XT2 had a fault that stopped the battery being charged. Once the battery was flat then even though it was on the bikes mount, or using an adequate USB power source it would not start up. Just before the battery was exhausted, it went into a continuous start up loop with a red battery symbol, but with the z of the external power through it.
I'd not want to bet the XT is any different.

Nothing to worry about except a little inconvenience. Both of my 590 / 595s are like this - and have been like it for most of their life. The charging was pretty awful. They would go completely dead within 10 mins, but they still work fine in the cradle and retain a tiny charge so never actually go dead.
If you want to use it in your hand for programming etc, the one of those rechargeable battery packs may be the answer. Make sure it has a normal USB port, or get a lead that will go from the battery pack to your XT. You can get leads now that come with a plug in adapter at each end so there are 4 connection options.

I guess that is the way of the world, and the internet - two conflicting experiences.
I shall monitor it as I have around 45 mins battery time. But that low singn is always showing
