I noticed that the battery was almost flat after a long run and didn't seem to charge when on a decent wall plug. The developer info shows a NFC fault which googling seems to indicate a thermistor fault that prevents the battery being charged.
A hard reset was indicated as a possible solution, is there anything else to do as I'm out on tour in Morocco and another week from home?

Re: NFC fault - battery not charging
I see two clues but can't suggest a fix. How long do you think the battery was "almost flat?" It's possible the protective circuit that disables a very low battery kicked in. It's purpose is to prevent charging a truly dead battery, which can cause overheating or fire.
The second is Morocco. Did the GPS get extra hot? Perhaps that triggers a thermistor charging shutdown, so a reset may be the right move, but I'm guessing from far away -- always dangerous.

Re: NFC fault - battery not charging
I download a new route into the unit and noticed that the battery level was low. So investigated the developer info. Now even on a 35w charger its in an endless power up loop.
Edit:
Overnight charge on a 35w capable charger and it's now dead as a dodo

Re: NFC fault - battery not charging
So after it had a week of rest, and was carried as ballast from southern Spain to the NE of Scotland and now being back home I put the XT2 on charge to see what happened.
Much cycling through the boot up loop with a red battery symbol showing in that screen. Disconnected the unit from the charger and tried a hard reset. Took a few attempts at getting the button press in sync with the units charging, but eventually got to the 4 reset options. Chose the 1st on, "normal boot"" IIRC and eventually got the button long press to work and it did its thing, and now seems to be working OK.
No NFC fault showing in the developer info and the battery has charged
Wish I had tried to hard reset before the soft one, especially as option #1 retained all the user data.

Well, that's good news. but...
- How did the XT2 get that empty in the first place? Maybe a good idea to check the power supply on your bike.
- Now you dont have an excuse to buy an XT3

I think it got cooked in Morocco. I was advised to remove the unit and so put it in my top box. A black top box in direct sunshineFrankB wrote: Sun Apr 26, 2026 7:26 pm @Oop North John

Will still see what the unit does when on the bike, though my confidence in it is less now. The XT3 option would only have been if it had stayed dead and Garmin offered one as a part exchange plus some money from me.
