XT3 crash (hopes of a decent nav dashed)

Brand new xt3 first proper run out. 200 miles. Crashed 5 times. Just goes to a black screen and takes ages to restart. Hopeless

My xt2 & my xt crashed occasionally for no apparent reason.
Well…. Whatever the reason is Garmin haven’t fixed it. They’ve included it :(

Similar experience.

2x restarts in 150 km. After updating the SW. Unfortunately, the 1 month trial period has already expired and it can no longer be returned with a refund. Service is a hopeless decision for once, because they will not do anything anyway. For once, there is hope for some kind of fix. A donkey goes on ice once, Garmin fans obviously go many times....

No such problems with my XT3, until now. But I dont enable the sync with the Tread App. As that proved to be the cause of many problems with the XT2.

If you have sync enabled, disable and try again!

Unfortunately sync to Tread was not enabled and therefore is not blameable even though it’s very clunky, not user friendly and looks like software from 20yrs ago.
Unlikely to be a simple software solution or they would have fixed it years ago when the original XT was crashing regularly.
Techs always ask about the powered mount : utter rubbish : if the battery is charged then if the powered mount for some unexplainable reason lost power or connection the unit would swap to battery power.

But of course “it’s the first time they’ve come across it”. Yeah right
So this is likely to be repeated for most owners until some sort of class action lawsuit holds them to task.

I also didn't sync to Tread, connected to a Samsung Galaxy S24+ phone.
Zumo was running on battery power in the car. Calculating the route from point A to B was very easy.
I don't see a reason for a reset during operation.
For once, I haven't contacted support yet, not enough operating hours have been used yet.

Not fit for purpose.

But everyone that this happens to, XT, XT2 or XT3 should report it to Garmin otherwise they can simply respond that it’s news to them, so far from the truth of an expensive product that doesn’t perform correctly and hasn’t for years.
Or of course not bother and put up with it, not sure why anyone would though.

Nobody likes to come here to read insults being swapped, so I will not add to that. However, I do want to point out that an intermittent connection to vehicle power, such as with dirty or damaged pins in the XT cradle, can and does cause shutdowns, crashes, and other bad behavior. Removing an XT from a cradle that is delivering steady power does result in a successful switch to battery power.

Could you describe that in more detail?
You can't just chose synchronization enable en or disable
If the Tread app is installed (and zumo paired with explore enable once before) and Bluetooth (or Wi-Fi) is enabled, synchronization will happen.

Crashes are very often software issues (even if the hardware could be the cause). This was particularly observable with the zumo XT2.
Then I can’t follow the reference here to an old Zumo solution, since that’s likely comparing different causes.

Strange, I don’t understand this statement either.
Connected to a Samsung Galaxy S24+ but no synchronization? What does that mean, and how is that supposed to work?
As described above, you can’t just turn synchronization on or off in a easy way.

What does “manufacturer-supplied power supplies” mean?
You “only” need the 12 volts directly from the vehicle, 1:1, or not?

PS
The other comments regarding the power supply don’t really convince me. Sure, nothing is impossible, but with new devices using proven components, these are perhaps rather unlikely causes for reboots.

Thanks,
In my case. The Ducati comes with a specific switched connection for a satnav unit. So you’re not hunting around trying to pick up 12v. It’s “manufactured for that purpose.
Not synced to tread app. Ie tread app not installed. Garmin unit used as stand alone
New device using proven components : my suggestion after owning all three is perhaps those proven components sadly include one which is proven to fail. Even the testers at MCN ended up sending one back for a new screen after failure if I remember correctly.

That makes sense—I’m familiar with the Ducati Navi connection, but I haven’t tried it yet (it’s still on my to-do list).

That’s a good idea to rule out issues with the Tread app for now, even though I’d love to use the Tread app idea myself, if it worked reliably.

It’s interesting that you’re having the same reboot issues with all three Zomos; I haven’t read about anything like that before.
By “proven” I mean that problems have sometimes been reported, often after the setup had been in use for a longer time. In those cases, sticking a piece of rubber behind the plug helped, but it seems to work quite well in most cases.
