XT3 : Pairing Headset Query

Reading through the XT3 manual, I notice a couple of differences between the XT2 and the XT3.
One is this related to pairing your phone. It seems that phone calls are routed direct to the headset rather than the recommendation that the Zumo is best used as the hub.

Which is different from the XT2.
Question 1:
Does this mean that there are two modes of operation ? One without the Tread app Paired and one with the Tread App paired ?
I can think of a number of reported faults which might be related to having phone call BT data passing through the Zumo when it is also trying to process Tread data back and forth.
Question 2:
Is it possible to have the tread app linked to the phone, but not allow it to synchronise with the Tread Database.
