Joining tracks

I use tracks a lot, rather than routes. I go over the same areas all the time and instead of starting a new track from scratch I am trying to stitch some tracks together to make a longer one; my problem is that when I join 2 tracks together I also get a straight line that completes the loop from the end of one track to the start of the one I've just joined it to. I don't want a loop; I want to add more tracks. I don't need my tracks to start and finish in the same place. How can I stop this closed loop thing happening please?

Shouldn't happen if you're joining them correctly, although you will get straight lines if the end of one track isn't the start of another. Just remember BaseCamp joins tracks and routes in the order you join them, so often it won't work properly if you simply block select them and then right click and select join selected tracks/routes. Select them individually using control + click in the order you need them joined, then right click the selection and all should be good.

Thanks for the response - still not sure its a solution though - if I keep adding tracks that don't finish at the start point then I will still end up with a straight line from the end of track 7 back to the start of track 1? Am I forced to complete the loop to avoid this issue?

No, the joined track will end at the end of the last track you selected.

Thats not whats happening - I must be joining tracks incorrectly - every track I add on to the chain of joined tracks has a straight line link back to its own start point

Well the only time I'd expect to see that is if you joined a track to another one that was going in a different direction, so you're actually joining the end of one track to the end of another, or the track already has that straight line. Are you able to provide 2 tracks that exhibit this so that I can look at them?

Is that start point also in the next joined track?
It will be interesting to see what is causing this behavior.
I can join selected tracks, change the track order, and reverse the direction of each track to choose which end is connected to the next track.
I have not been able to create a loop by joining separate tracks.
