Like many others, I too grew up using and loving Mapsource, I still occasionally use it to create routes, especially as the Find function in Basecamp is very poor compared to Mapsource (not that either are much good). many times I have to resort to Google Earth to find the places I want to go through.
Once the route is created in Mapsource, simply import it/them into a new Basecamp list folder, recalculate the route(s) if the map set is different, and transfer to your unit. If everything has been done properly you should just see the transfer as a single coloured line in your unit or storage card, if not a single or series of banner flashes to indicate recalculation during the download.
This is also a good way to re use older routes, created in Mapsource using previous map sets.

Mapsource all (most) of the time for me.. the biggests gripes with Basecamp is the inablity to zoom in to a chosen point on the map with one click and that I can't right click on Basecamp to view in Google Earth.

Minor flaws with Basecamp, having to change map view to see the time/distance of routes created, plus, a silly point, but when highlighting all my routes in Mapsource the total distance is shown too.

I often resort to Basecamp whan creating routes for my Motorhome as it has an 'RV' setting which can be handy, but not 100% reliable, hence the ability to view in Google Earth is important.

I see no benefit in Basecamp over Mapsource (for me).

I still prefer to create route in Mapsource. I will then import them into Basecamp and then export as a KML file which I import into Google My maps.
I can then check the route for any road bloacks or traaffic problems. This I learned from a member on this forum.
