C: Drive Space Problems

Rather than tag onto two different old threads, I've started this new one. I hope that's ok. Three problems -

1) Having updated the XT, I told Garmin Express (v7.27.1) to install CN 2026.30 NTU on my D: drive, as I'm trying to clear space on my C: drive. It replied with an error, to the effect that the installation failed. I repeated the instruction, but it installed it on my C: drive instead. This seems to be the norm! So I'd like to move the maps to my D: drive and put a shortcut to them on my C: drive.

Basecamp is looking at C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps\City_Navigator_Europe_NTU_2026_30.gmap\Product1\. I'm not clear as to which folder I should move to my D: drive and where to put the shortcut that I create to it.

2) There is also a similar size folder C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps\RMU\EU\2026_30\15b93ae2-5670-44ee-90a3-04044da1cbff\IMG\ with a whole lot of stuff in it including another Product1 folder. Can I assume that once the maps are installed this folder (7.7GB) can be deleted, or at least moved somewhere else?

3) The Garmin folder in my User's Local AppData amounts to 22.5GB, of which 19.6GB is in the sub-folder express\maps. From their dates, 12.6GB of these appear to relate to earlier versions of the maps. Can I assume that Garmin Express has failed to delete these, and delete them (or again move them for now)?

Summarising the above, it looks like I could move nearly 30GB of data from my C: drive, which would be really useful. Advice would be much appreciated!

I've stopped moving the map since I bought a bigger C: drive, but I saved what Garmin used to suggest, and my notes:
Moving Installed Garmin Maps to Another Location on a Windows Computer
Installing maps to the computer will allow them to be viewed in BaseCamp and other applications. In some circumstances, it is beneficial to relocate the map data to save space on the system drive.

To move the map files to an alternate location:

Windows Vista and higher:

Press the Windows key + R
Type %programdata% and press Enter
Open the Garmin folder
Open the Maps folder
Right-click the desired map to move
Click Cut
Browse to the desired alternate location
Right-click a blank area in the directory
Click Paste
Browse back to the Maps folder on the C: drive (%programdata%\Garmin\Maps)
Right-click a blank area in the directory
Select New
Select Shortcut
Click Browse and browse to the location of the relocated map
Click Next
Click Finish

My modified version which I find easier to remember:

In File Explorer, click the View tab, check the Hidden Items box.
Open C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps
Select the City Navigator folder (ends in .gmap)
Right-click and Cut.
Browse to the desired alternate location
Right-click a blank area in the folder
Click Paste
Right-click the map folder, select Create Shortcut
Right-click the new shortcut, select Cut
Browse back to C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps (Back button on mouse)
Paste the Shortcut
Basically, you are moving the map to your preferred location and replacing the map in ProgramData with a shortcut to the new location.

Simplest way is to use JaVaWa's GMTK program https://www.javawa.nl/gmtk_en.html

I'd forgotten about that. I'll have a look.

And JaVaWa's GMTK did the job in less than a minute! Now to move the other surplus files.
