Will Garmin Zumo XT2 be replaced? Here in Italy, the price of the Garmin Zumo XT2 has dropped significantly, today you can find it at €399.00. Some stores mark it as "last pieces". Do you know if a possible successor is on the way?

I don't think this is it, there have never been such high discounts on Garmins, maximum 10/15%, many times they are even excluded from promotions...

It is oddly cheap.

But then again they're selling quite poorly.

Perhaps because the technological world that we live in, people are getting wise to the number 'features' that have been included with the newer models.

Hands up - who will buy the next generation of XT ? We could assume that the next version is already in development, and all of the issues that we reported about the XT2 have been fixed in the replacement.

But that would be very much a case of hope over experience. I mean, some of the issue with the XT2 started life in the Zumo 595 and have never been addressed - except to make them worse.
They did make a half hearted attempt to fix RUT behaviour - by not allowing the XT to request more than 2 U turns - but that ‘fix’ only hid the symptom, it didn't solve the problem. It was us that did that.

But having said that - at £499 the XT2 is pretty good value for money - if you know how to use the work arounds.
ie
Don't allow Tread to Synch.
Don't put GPX files in internal storage.
Don't use the Tread App to plan routes.
Use TripManager to convert your gpx file to a trip file
or - at least, use the Copy feature to ensure your route is saved rather than imported.

But Garmin are in the business to make money. A big price drop like that is quite possibly to get rid of excess stock, prior to releasing a new model. It would not make sense to bring out a new model and then try to sell the old ones. But the reverse argument doesn't work.
It was early 2023 when the XT2 came out. I got mine in the first of the second batch to enter the UK. (And It got lost on the way here !). If I was releasing a new one, I'd want it to be out before the riding season. That is 3 years since the last one.

The new version of the XT has a lot to change, but in principle my history with the XT(2) ends with this model. I have not had a good experience with Garmin.
Today there are many other options that are not only much better but also cheaper.
Garmin is a disaster.
