As posted above, has anybody here ever created a custom Garmin map?
Polaris Ride Command maps are useful while ATV/UTVing, but they are not compatible with Garmin.

Hi - what exactly do you mean with 'custom Garmin compatible' map?
Nearly every OSM map could be used with the Zumo XT and also with Basecamp! And there are many custom-build OSM maps available on the Internet - there's a little 'restriction' with routable maps on the Zumo XT, as there could be problems with speech output when more than one routable map is active on the Zumo XT. So when using a routable OSM map on the Zumo XT is being used, it's better to deactivate the original City Navigator maps in the Zumo's setting (MyMaps)...
And you can of course use another planning software and export an gpx track/route if possible and than use this gpx track/route with your Zumo XT - but be aware that than there could be some problems because not all map-formats are exactly the same.

I frequently create maps myself using this program:

Yes, I take .tiff or geo tiff files of Canadian topo maps, warp them using a custom piece of software, align them in Google Earth, save as KML files then import them into Basecamp and Zumo XT.
You can see some pics in this thread:
