Unfortunately my XT abandoned ship, after having done around 100 miles, and instead of landing on the grass verge landed on the road. Glass totally smashed and whilst it powers up the touch screen is dead so I have no function from the screen

Have contacted Garmin UK and they can supply a refurbished one at reasonable price.

However, I am going to loose a lot of map routes that I would rather not and would therefore like to transfer them to my PC and then download to the replacement XT when it arrives.

Have loaded Express and the XT goes into it's PC connect mode but Express says it is not connected? Any suggestions as I have absolutely no control from the XT screen. There is a memory card fitted but don't know if any of the routes have been transferred automatically to it?

How do you read the memory card?

The fact that Garmin Express won't see the device is disturbing and could indicate damage to the file system. Have you tried to look at it with a file explorer when it is connected to the PC. Under normal operation you will see it in a file explorer as an attached device named "Zumo XT". In that you will see its internal Storage and Memory Card. If you get that far, route data is stored in Internal Storage, in a folder named GPX. Making a copy of that folder will capture route data that is on the device.

Routes do not automatically get placed on the SD card.

Also, if you use Basecamp you could attach the device and import the routes to Basecamp provided the memory is accessible.

When I connect the XT to the PC I get the message from Window Explorer that the USB device is not recognised, Code 43 and I do not see a Zumo XT displayed?

However, I get that same message when I connect my working Tom Tom to the PC, nor is it also identified? Can you advise in a bit more detail where I would expect to see the devices displayed?

Problem solved. Had incorrect USB to C adaptor fitted. It is now connecting.
