Windows PC Does Not Find Zumo 396

I recently did a reset on my Zumo 396 to eliminate 17 ghost routes that do not appear in the saved trips even though the saved trips says 17 saved routes. The ghost trips were eliminated after reset but now the PC does not find the Garmin drive when connected. When plugged in the warning screening comes on then the "USB connection detected entering file transfer mode in xx seconds" comes on then the PC/gps image/screen comes on as expected, but after about 15 seconds the battery charging symbol comes on and the Garmin starts up as it would when not connected to the computer. Another thing I noticed is that, after the reset, there is 1 route listed to be imported but after being imported it does not disappear from the import screen and can be imported again. It seems something is wrong with the internal drive. Would appreciate any advice/solutions to this problem.
