Update failure

I received a notice on my XT2 today that a map and software update were available. I could have let the device update by wifi, but I didn't want to leave the igntion on for the time required so I connected it to my PC and started the update. When I returned some time later, I received a message on the PC that the update had failed. I tried to run the update again but I had the following error message on the XT2 screen "Detailed maps are required for routing. No detailed maps were found on this device". I clicked OK and the next message on the screen was "Cannot unlock maps". I am at a loss as to how to fix this. I searched this forum but didn't find anything. Any suggestions?

Mike

Run Express again and try another install. Don't leave it on its own if you're on Windows with UAC on.

Also check what is shown in Settings, Map&Vehicle, myMaps and see what if anything is showing. If the maps are there ensure they are checked.

+1 on @sussamb 's comments.

Don't have Basecamp loaded and running at the same time. And don't select map updates with any other update options.

It will ask you to disconnect and restart the device (Xt2) a couple of times. Each time you will have to reconnect the XT2. you will probably have to press the power button if it doesn't turn itself on, and you will then have to tell the XT2 to connect to the computer - the little blue icon in the bottom right of the main screen.

If Express continues to display the same message asking for the Zumo to be restarted for a long time after you have restarted it, close down express, and start it up again. Check the status of the maps. If it still gives the new map as being available to install, then select it again. It will pick up from where it left off and you will probably have to repeat the above. Check that express thinks that the maps are up to date. Check that the XT2 has them installed and selected.

I'd say maybe 25% of the time a map update fails for me. But it never requires a full reinstall, the second attempt is much quicker.
And the timings are worst case scenario - it never takes 2-4 hours these days. Maybe 30 mins now with broadband.

Thanks for the prompt advice. After farting around with it I saw a button "manage maps". Selecting that allowed me to see what was on my device and reinstall the North American map even though the system was "up-to-date" My first attempt froze at ~80% installed. I then attempted another reinstall and I watched it like a hawk and it completed the reinstall at 100%. I disconnected the device and powered it up and voila! no error messages. I will take the bike for a putt today to verify that everything is copacetic. I have about a five thousand mile ride to the Canadian maritimes planned in August so I was counting on the Zumo to be up and running Thanks again for the help.
