how to stop showing a previously recorded track

Post by cougsfan »

I started the track recorder, and it showed the recorded track just fine. Now I would like it not to show so I can start showing a fresh recorded track. I don't want to erase it necessarily, but I no longer want that recorded track to show. I have tried several things but have yet to figure out how to do that. How do I do that?

If this is a track that you have recorded by pressing the Track Recorder function, then you can put it into a collection and make that collection not visible on the map. (Or make everything invisible on the map except the collection. that you are using. If you haven't put the track into a collection, then it will be in one called 'Unorganised'.

If you are talking about automatically recorded tracks that show up on the map as a light blue (Cyan) colour. You can stop these from displaying by goind to Settings (gear icon)->Map Display ->Map Layers->Unsaved Tracks ->Untick.

Your automatically recorded tracks are saved for about 6 months according to the XT2 information. They are saved initially in Internal Storage/GPX/CurrentTrackLog.gpx.

When that becomes full, some of the contents are placed in the "Archive" folder in the same location - it uses numberered files :- 1.gpx, 2.gpx etc.
After 6 months the oldes file is deleted to make room for the latest tracks. The later few gpx files, may be modified subsequently - the XT2 tries to keep tracklogs relating to the same trips or the dates around the same time, together in the same archive file.

If you like to keep these - I do - I have them from about 2010 - they make a very interesting historic record of trips that we went on. Basecamp can be used to organise them, join together broken tracks, colour and also analyse them with speed graphs and elevation graphs. I sometimes use this - especially for putting together fragmented tracks (which happens a lot if the RUT issue is encountered). But mainly I use a program called MemoryMaps on which I have the Ordnance Survey of the UK at 1:250,000; 1:50,000 and 1:25,000 scales. The latter has enough accuracy and detail to see where you pulled in at the roadside.

I download them every few months. I have a folder on my computer to store them and I just select the CurrentTRackLog.gpx and the Archive foder from the XT2 and drop them into the folder on the computer. If it asks if you want to overwrite any with the same name, then say yes - because unlike the XT and all Zumos before it, the XT2 may change archived files after they have been archived - in its effort to keep entire trips together. This ensures that your folder on the computer contains all of the latest track logs.

If you ever need to reset your XT2 - to factory conditions - all of these files are deleted from the XT2 - MAke sure you back them up first, and then start a new folder on your computer - because the XT2 will start a new sequence of archive fles .gpx, 2.gpx etc.

I know that you didn't ask for this next option, but it'll be handy for anyone else looking in. To turn off automatic recording of track logs, then you head to Main Page->Settings (gear icon)->Device->Travle History and tick/untick. If this is unticked, then the XT2 will not be able to refine its route planning or the ETA calculations to match the how and where you like to ride.
Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

Thanks JF. That is all useful information that helps me understand recorded tracks much better. I had wondered what the "Unorganized" collection was all about,
In my case, I finally figured out that I had done; I inadvertently converted my recently recorded and displayed track into a route. I knew that was just where I had ridden, so I assumed it was my travel history. So I was trying to hide the wrong thing.

We've all been there. At least once.

And because a route can belong to more than one collection, you'll probably do the same thing again at some time.

I know I have.
