I ordered battery from AliExpress, OrangeYu 1800mAh Battery 361-00059-00 for Garmin ZUMO 350LM,ZUMO 390LM, ZUMO 340LM. It’s bit smaller for mAh and size but the connector is same. I just clued it in the old battery attachment plastic, unit works again now and it was only 10€
OrangeYu 1800mAh Battery 361-00059-00 for Garmin ZUMO 350LM,ZUMO 390LM, ZUMO 340LM, is available but my first attempt at buying it showed the vendor offering a cheaper version that was "not deliverable to my address". I kept looking at the same vendor and they offered a 15% more costly version that was deliverable. Huh... Still less than $20 delivered from China.
I bought one and Thank You Very Much for the tip here about the connector being the same as the OEM unobtanium battery.
There is a thread from 2023 that indicates one user had a "bricking" event when attempting to change out his working, older battery to a new battery. He "left it disconnected overnight", and then plugged in the new battery and the unit would not boot up. He did not report back about whether or not he fixed it. This is a report of one event, I find no other similar reports.
So, I glean from that report, that there is some risk attempting to change out the battery. Certainly others have successfully changed to a new battery?
Edit 22July:
I received the battery very quickly, looked like from a depot in Hayward CA. I then proceeded to measure the voltage across the red and black wires. The battery appears completely flat, dead. I tried via "whisker" wires into the connector mouth, from the top. One strand of copper "hair", this is a 1.0mm pitch connector, very tiny openings. No voltage, so I try again by needle probing via the connector front where the crimps are seen. Still nothing. I'm sending it back.
This is a 3 wire battery system with a BMS built into the battery. I do not know what the third green wire is for, but other retailers mention a thermistor sensor. So, maybe it's for that I dont know. I'm hoping it does not affect the open circuit voltage for testing.
One other point I took on faith, but I have not confirmed. The connector is polarized, so that it will insert in only one way. I dont know if this new battery is wired to be the same polarity as the original battery (positive to positive, red to red). It cortainly matters to successfully connect and power the GPS. Bing a DOA battery, I did not open the Zumo to check this detail. Other vendors on eBay (and maybe Amazon), allow one to order the battery wired in a specific polarity. That is, you can order a battery: Pin 1 to Black (negative), or Pin 1 to Red (positive). T I tried to determine which way this connector was wired, but I could not find a pin 1 marking (as identified on this JTCT connector spec). I took a bunch of pictures and measurements, but I do not find any successful references here or elsewhere online.
I will punt, and try again if I can get clarification on these points.
