If the want to totally stop supporting Basecamp then why not remove it for all devices. If they want to discourage XT owners from upgrading to an XT2, well they're on the right path.
After selling my new XT, I was thinking of replacing it with the XT2, but after learning that Basecamp doesn't work on XT2 I went to the 396 instead, I'm a fan of Basecamp.
the XT2 is probably a great GPS but I don't want to use my smartphone,
(Edit) my smartphone is not very smart lol

The XT2 does work with Basecamp, but it's not officially supported. So routes may lose attributes eg driving will become motorcycling. Shaping points have a whole pain level if you have Tread active.
The problem with not being able to install to computer anymore is not just with the XT2, my XT has exactly the same issue. I uninstalled this version of Express and reinstalled the previous one (7.23.0) and that one works fine. I hope that this is just a bug that will be corrected soon. I seem to remember that this bug has happened before in an earlier release.
Strange that the same SW/HW combination works for some users and not for others. Could you please explain exactly how you got Express 7.24.0 to install the map on your PC? The option just isn't there in my version of 7.24.0

I'm going to start adding a waypoint destination and let the zumo calculate the route, no more shaping points and no more RUT (repeat u-turns)
I generally use nothing but shaping points, except of course for the start and destination points. Haven't seen a RUT in at least a year. And no, I don't use the "new" app here on the forum. And no, I don't jump thru hoops with re-saving an imported & active route. None of it.

@Snijderj, what I have gleaned from this discussion is that Garmin Express 7.24.0.0 does not have the option to install the map to a PC when an XT2 is connected but it does when an XT is connected. Are you saying that yours does not have the option to install maps when an XT is connected? If so, was Garmin Express restarted between disconnecting an XT2 and connecting an XT?

I don't have an XT2, just an XT. I have the Europe map and perhaps that is why I don't get the option to install to the PC, that people apparently get with the North America map.
Very strange, it must be a bug. I've gone back to the previous version of Express and that works fine.
