Handlebar Controller for XT2
Re: Handlebar Controller for XT2
Interestingly, if you want to order on the Garmin.eu website, it still adds the two cable to the basket when you selct a XT2 with thumb controller, instead of the single cable...
Re: Handlebar Controller for XT2
Haven't seen it mentioned but I assume as there's no "joystick" the controller can only zoom in or out but can't scroll across or up and down maps?

Re: Handlebar Controller for XT2
I'm going to do a video of what it can do. It has 4 buttons, each of which can have a long press and a short press. However the + and - buttons are intended for map zoom in and out, so long press zooms faster. That gives 4 function available - which can be assigned to a set number of things.
So eg. I think that I will set top button for skip and for music player (side panel). Bottom button for weather and traffic side panel. Skip because it tells you which point is next. You can then accept or dismiss with the + - buttons. Never use skip on the Xt or xt2 . It seems to trigger very different routing behaviour.
Notable is that if you have say trip data already displayed, if you the select eg weather and then music player, weather covers the trip data. Music player then covers weather. If you then select the button for music player again, it removes music player and reveals the weather. Press button for weather, it removes the weather and reveals the trip data.
One of the options is to lock / unlock the screen. A noon if it is raining and affecting the screen.
Give me a day or two I'll have a video posted.

Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

Re: Handlebar Controller for XT2
I have just set the controller up on my desk so that I could make a video of it.
Excuse the odd angle, it was the only way that I could get the controller and the XT2 to be in the same screen shot !
Also - I am aware that the controller is 'upside down'. But that is the way that it is going to fit on my bike which has no handlebar available. The right way up, the controller blocks other handlebar controls. Upside down, the cable emerges from the top rear, and the contoller is mounted higher.
Not polished, not flash. Just informative.
I'll post images of the Controller options in the following posts.

Re: Handlebar Controller for XT2
Very helpful video, one question, with the zoom in / out does it return to the auto-zoom level that was previously selected.

Re: Handlebar Controller for XT2
Good question.
The answer is no - I think - at least not from my observations. BUT I was simulating riding a route. I haven't mounted it on the bike yet. The front part of the screen/fairing has to come off for that. Maybe later today or tomorrow.
But doesn't it automatically zoom in and out as the speed changes / or as turnings approach ?
I think that the autozoom behaviour can be turned on and off in the settings. I'll check it out when it is actually on the bike.
Edit - after installing it on the bike.
Actually the long press zoom in and out is a bit of a pain. It zooms far too quickly and too much - all it needs is one or three short presses to get to a zoom level that you want. So the long press, I won't be using, except accidentally.
The auto zoom kicks in when you approach a white arrow instruction label and often when you speed up and slow down - regardless of the setting from the Handlebar controller. It is just like pressing the plus arrow on the screen - but easier with gloved hands.

Re: Handlebar Controller for XT2
MY SETTING IS:
TRIANGLE: UP AHEAD / PHONE
+ : ZOOM IN
- : ZOOM OUT
CIRCLE: WEATHER / TRIP DATA
Maybe if you don´t use phone a lot, you can change Phone by Towns Ahead. I don't use the screen lock much either, but it could be interesting in climates where it rains a lot.
