Also the skip function in the tools on the 595 is not available although this seemed to let me rejoin a route I had deviated from and had passed a waypoint.
Following. I need a skip tool or simply a way to simply skip a point as well. Drives me crazy! The only way I've found to stop the 595 from telling me to u-turn is to stop the vehicle and stop the route on the 595. Then restarting the route makes it be normal again, most of the time but not always. Way, via or shaping point- makes no difference.

Last time I knew where I was and where I was going so I didn't stop just to see how long it would try. 14 miles, maybe more. After 14 miles you'd think the damn thing would just move on! Nope, I had to stop, etc.

The technology used on the Zumo 500 series is absolutely horrendous and a definite retrograde step from the old 660. It is a struggle to rejoin a route after a coffee stop. The Bluetooth connection to the phone only works as long as you are not trying to use the Zumo for its intended use ie. as a bike to bike intercom. If using as an intercom it drops the phone connection. I have tried connecting the devices in every conceivable permutation but nothing gets it to work as it should (and as the 660 DID). Garmin just tell me the Zumo is fully compatible with my Interphone device. Wish I had saved my money.

Doesn't this work on the 595 too?

No, it does not. There is no SKIP tool available on the 595, one of the reasons it's mostly a useless POS sometimes.

OK, maybe it's like the Drive series, does it have a Change route button in Map Tools, that gives numerous options including skipping points.

Edit: It does, page 7 of the manual, taking a detour, does help occasionally to read it ;)

You might also find this helps, it's at around the 6 minute mark

but you may benefit from watching the whole video :)

Apparently you don't own a 595. Otherwise you would know what you're talking about:

A- I don't want the device to decide on a new route for the next xxx miles by telling it to detour. Yes, that's what it does, it sometimes completely changes the route. No, I just want to skip one single preprogrammed point. Last time a detour chosen by the device was a complete route change 132 miles longer than my original route.

B- Additionally, "down east" of me, roads are few and far between. There are very few choices to detour. Sometimes 3-5 hours are added to a trip there. Again, I don't want a new route, I just want to skip a single preprogrammed point.

C- Additionally, Garmin is notoriously erroneous in our mountain ranges. If it thinks it should b/c of no other road choices, you will be sent on washed out dirt roads regardless of the avoidances you set. Seen videos of one lane goat trails? The 595 thinks that's a road!

D- It's not simple to skip a point. I get a list of points, with no map and no indication of where I am or where on that list the point I want to skip is. And I've yet to find the option to skip one, it's just a list of points.

E- this video is as inaccurate as the many others I've watched. The 595 I own and apparently the ones many other people own does NOT pop up asking if I want to skip a point. Never has. As mentioned earlier, 14 miles of "Make A U-Turn" until I stop moving, stop the route, etc.

'skip next destination' is in the Change route menu in Map Tools.

When I select Settings/Map & Vehicle/Map Tools I am sent to "Select Map Tools". I am given a checkbox for turning on or off Change Route. That is, I can add it or remove it from the "Quick" tools button. But I cannot 'skip next destination' there, not on the 595.

Am I doing this wrong?

you can find the 'Map Tools' on the map page, wrench button, lower right corner.

not the most easy accessible place though.
