Import POI from Zumo 550

Post by Dunny »

I purchase Camps Australia POI file and it downloaded to Zumo 550 no problem. How can I transfer the POI file into Basecamp on my PC and run it within CN Aust & NZ 2024?

TIA,
Craig

See https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp ... 26DB7.html

Note your device must be connected or you need to copy the poi files to a removeable drive and use that instead.

In Basecamp, go under the File menu, select New, then create a new Folder and create a new List, with name Camps (example for name).
Connect your zumo 550 to computer, then in Basecamp under the Device menu. select Receive From Device.
maybe you can find your POI camp files in the 550 and copy them into your new Camp list on Basecamp.
sorry, I'm not much help, that's all I know

or you can connect your 550 to computer, and use file explorer to look at the 550 files and copy/paste the Camp POI files to a folder on your computer, and from computer then copy/paste those POI files into a new List folder in Basecamp, those POI files probably have a .gpx file extension

Thanks for the advise, but I can't get it to transfer. It is a gpi file if that makes a difference.

I tried the receive from method with no luck.

My menu has the Manage Custom POI... not highlighted so I can't choose that option.

It'll only be highlighted if you have a device connected containing POI files, these end in .gpi

POI files have a .gpi extension, you can't put them into lists etc in BaseCamp

.gpx files can contain routes, tracks, waypoints etc

POIs as defined by Garmin are .gpi files and cannot be imported into lists etc in BaseCamp.

Thanks sussamb for clearing this up.

Well that's no good is it!! Speed zones, school zones, Red light cameras, and other POI are only available on the 550 and can't be seen on computer screen. Is that what I understand?

If that is so, I bet nobody from Garmin has tried to do a detailed route on a Zumo 550 screen.
