CN NA 2024.20

Post by sussamb »

Just released. Been quite a while since CN NA 2024.10 (Feb 23) so seems like Garmin are reducing the update frequency.

It's been around for a while. All three of my devices have it.

@Bear

You're confused, it was released yesterday. Perhaps you're thinking of the CN EU map!

I used wifi to update my XT then Garmin Express to install on computer. This took all of about 20 mins for the XT and less than 5 for the computer. Haven't done my 595 yet.

The last time I did it this way, GE didn't see the new map on the XT. The XT showed it, BaseCamp saw it, but GE didn't. I don't recall the steps required to fix it but I vividly recall that it was a mess.

I just did the update and had the same problem: GE could not find the new map to "change" and install it on my computer, even though GE had already installed it on the XT, not WiFi. But I'm on a Mac, so it took several reboots of GE, the XT and reconnects and telling Android File Transfer to shut up and go away before I finally got it to work.

I have a satelite internet connection
I tried to start Garmin Express but was prompted to update to the latest version. The update failed with a message cannot be installed on this computer. I went to the Garmin site and discovered in the requirements list:
High-speed internet access (not for use with dial-up, mobile or satellite connections)

Are there any options for map updates?

You don't say what your ultimate goal is regarding the map update so I don't know whether you are trying to update a device or to update the map on a PC for use by Basecamp. FWIW, I have a zumo XT. It will update its map via wi-fi, no Garmin Express required. Also, Garmin Express is routinely updated to make it compatible with the newest Garmin devices. If you have updated maps with the existing version it still should work for that.

As for the Garmin Express update failure, the message you received makes me think that the update package downloaded ok but something went wrong during the installation process. Trying the update again sometimes work. Restart the PC first. Make sure Express is not running it the background. If another attempt fails, troubleshooting may be required to resolve the update failure issue. Having a downloaded Garmin Express installer may be valuable. You can get that here: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/software/express

This is the URL to the Garmin support page regarding installation issues with Express: https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=i ... 6jvUu5cBh5

I suggest you wait a couple days. I often see updates listed here but the download fails at home. A couple/three days later it goes on with no trouble.

I tried the Express update several times same result. I tried to uninstall and start fresh but the uninstall failed also. I would like to update both the Zumo 390 and my PC but i'll settle for just PC. I can later load mapsets to my devices once the map is updated on my PC. I will look at the links posted, thanks.
