660 LM appears to have died

After sitting idle for four months in the motorcycle mount on my Goldwing(indoors and with a cover on the bike) my 660LM will not power up.
I did all the suggestions from the Garmin web site, then on the suggestion of Garmin tech support, replaced the battery.
Still no joy.
After another online chat with Garmin, they are suggesting that it is dead, and are offering a 595LM for 489.99.
They said Garmin will not repair it.
Are there any places that will repair? Would it be worth the repair?
The 660 did everything I ever needed,so don't really need an upgrade.
Or is my best be to buy the 595LM?

Thank in advance

Jeff in Ferndale WA

It may be worth a call to these people if you're in the USA

Emailed this (Saturday) morning and Chris replied in less than an hour.
He seems confident it can be repaired but can't give an estimate until he sees the unit.
I'm putting it in the mail today.I will let you know how it goes.

That's a good start then Jeff. I read loads of good reviews for Palm Doctor on the old Zumo forum. Hopefully he'll sort it for you.
Cheers, Pete.

He repaired by Zumo 550 and I am very blessed with the work and the price was not bad. Nice to have Chris around.

Chris got back to me this morning:

"Unfortunately the problem was not the power chip but the flash memory chip which is much more involved and none of your trips/favorites will be able to be saved. The repair would be $118.90 plus return shipping."

I told him to proceed. I will let you know how it turns out.

This could be a good reason to keep your Library on SD cards & on a PC and NOT solely in internal memory of the gps. Computer file management 101- multiple copies in different places.

It was completely dead, so could not backup anything. I did have some things on an SD card(can't recall what exactly) and have all my waypoints saved on my computer.I did remove the sd card before sending away.
