Radar Weather Images while moving
Radar Weather Images while moving
I'm hearing that you can no longer view the weather radar while moving after one of the firmware updates. Is there anyway to downgrade to a previous firmware version to restore this function, and if so, where can I download earlier firmware versions from?

Re: Radar Weather Images while moving
To clarify, for me at least, I can open the radar app while I’m in motion, but the radar image is static. Where as if I’m stationary, the radar is animated.
Has been like this since i can remember on mine.

Re: Radar Weather Images while moving
An "update" to the 590 took away the animated radar (while moving) several years ago, and I don't think the XT ever had it.
At the same time it reduced the ability to zoom in close, showing over a hundred miles E-W in landscape mode. That only shows major roads and makes it difficult to guess the exact location of a storm in relation to the roads.
Even stopped, the radar display is also delayed. I've watched storms move through the area using both my phone and the XT, finding that the XT display was up to 20 minutes behind the phone app.
If I have to stop anyway to judge the speed of approaching weather, I just use my phone.

The XT had moving radar (while in motion) when I first got it (April 2020). The feature was removed with a later update.

^ Yep, this for me too. Too many good phone apps to depend on the XT. I do sometimes disconnect the Bluetooth as the XT is sometimes easily confused.

Re: Radar Weather Images while moving
I have an iPhone SE with 3 weather apps installed. When on the road it is common for the radar maps to not load due to poor cell service. I have never used the weather radar on the XT. Is it dependent on Garmin Drive and a cell connection?

Yeah sure it is online app via phone internet connection. I'm using it for quick view and mobile apps (RainViewer or Windy for iOS) for detailed info where to drive w/o rain.
