What are your next projects (roadtrips)

I am interested in what people in this forum are planning as their next (multidays) roadtrips. (I am looking for ideas!)

Here are mines

1) Route des cols des pyrénées - Pyrenean passes ( 34 passes). Beginning of June 2023 (need to wait for all the passes to be open)

I plan 3 days to get to Hendaye, 6 days on the road itself, and 3 days to come back home. A combinationn of hotels, guest houses and camping

2) La Route des Grandes Alpes (End July)

This is a fantastic ride. I did it already in the past but I plan to do it again with a german friend the last week of July. We start from Thonon Les Bains

3) September or october or next year. The German "Alpen Strasse"

My next trip will be to West Virginia, a state I have ridden in before but need to explore additional routes. Beautiful scenery, nice people, some great roads.

I struggled to determine a destination for my long trip in 2023. My motorcycle destination bucket list is empty. My wife and I sat in front of the PC with Google Maps open looking for an area within three days ride that we thought would be fun to ride around in. We selected western Pennsylvania and New York, travelling through the mountains of West Virginia staying off interstate highways (we are in North Carolina). I am in 'trip planning' mode now. An overall plan is done along with the routes for the first two days. Only 8 more days to plan. Wait, only 7. We'll be in familiar territory on the last day so no planning needed.

I have 2 in the works:

Delmarva. I love riding there and the fresh-off-the-boat seafood is second to none. It's one of the cradles of our country and the historical sites are some of our earliest. 4 days at least. And there's a small ferry there I haven't ridden yet.

Cleveland, Ohio. To visit the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Never been. 6 day trip at least. With the recent chemical spill and burn we've been looking at plan b, nothing determined yet.

The cost of ferries is exhorbitant over here. Plymouth - Santander in October (out of season) has just come back as £683 for motorbike and rider only.... I was hoping to go to the Colombres Rally in northern Spain, but it looks like it is way, way out of my price range. I am looking alternatives, but the ferry to France is still over £250, and then another 2 days ride to get to the Spanish town for the rally. I could do it in one very long day, but then be knackered for the next several days. The rally is for pre 1984 bikes. I would go on the R100CS which is pretty thirsty, so the fuel cost of riding down is not insignificant, and then I have to get back again - so in reality it is nearly an extra week of accommodation and fuel on top of the trip. Something tells me I shoudn't be spending 30% of our annual income on a motorbike rally. Whichever way I do it, the cost is going to be around £2000! Like Fagin, "I think I better think it out again..."!

One day, or overnight, trips to Wales seems more realistic.

I agree. It is very expensive. I don't remember it was that expensive the last time I took a ferry to england (a long time ago). Eurotunnel seems to be much cheaper (131 euros for my bike two-way ticket Calais - Folkstone, I don;t know if this include the passengers )

I just decided to educate myself by getting some perspective on the physical size of the UK vs. the US. Wow, this image REALLY gave me perspective (I live near where the "N" is in "North Carolina"). I feel like I have been insensitive when referencing multi-thousand mile rides.

This is a trip I'm currently planning. Don't know yet if I will actually drive it. Bear in mind that it's still 'work in progress'. It is inspired on the South route of the 'Deutsche MotorRad Strasse'.

It's only available in German, if you have trouble reading German maybe Google Translate can help.

One of the problems you can encounter in Germany/Austria is that roads can be closed for motorcycles during the weekend, or if they produce more than 95 DBA. If have checked the routes and found detours for those roads. See https://www.tourenfahrer.de/reise/streckensperrungen (Only in German!)

I would be interested in Luxemburg, North-East part of France. (Vosges) Do you have recommendations for me? I can read French websites.

Unfortunately, I am not very familiar with the north east of France. Actually I know Schwarzwald better than '"Les Vosges". I travelled across Elsass last year when coming back from Norway. We went to the "Vieil Armand" (Hartmannwillerkopf wenn ich mich richtig erinnere). The countryside is nice as well as the villages but the road are small. And when coming back from a 25 days roadtrip without a speed bumber, it is a shock when arriving in France...

Attached is a GPX of "La route des cols vosgiens". I am not sure which part of this road I took last year. The Hartmannswillerkopf monument is somewhere in the south eastern side of the road.

Here you can find a 3 days roadtrip in Luxembourg. Unfortunately their GPX files seems to be corrupted but you might be able to rebuild a route from the list of "points de passage" (waypoints)

That is all I have. Generally speaking there is more "biker-focused" material on the internet in Germany than there is in France. It is the same for lodging etc. I like to travel to Germany for this reason. The food is good, and price/quality perfect most of the time.
