If you run a speed test and it looks OK, it could be the routing from your ISP onwards. You could try changing your DNS settings to 1.1.1.1 and see if that makes a difference.

Iā€™m in the UK on a 200mb/sec line and I get a 200mb/sec download from Garmin, so I know it should be faster than you are getting.

Thanks for the suggestion Alan. I've set the DNS to 1.1.1.1
I have a Nuvi awaiting an update, I'll give it a go tomorrow. Will this setting affect anything else on the laptop?

Broadband speed is 51.9 Mbps which I thought was quite reasonable.
Express says it's copying files at 217 kb/s and now has 5hrs 3mins to go!
Not too worried--just like to know about these things. :)
I'm only on a 30 meg download and showing 1 hour 20 mins  at a rate of 4.1 MB/s

I wonder if there was a problem with your ISP as that seems a long time at that given speed! or maybe a problem with your WiFi?

It's always been pretty much the same--extremely slow update times. I did connect via an ethernet cable after Alan's suggestion. Also, following Alan's suggestion, I reset the DNS.
I've just plugged in the Nuvi for the update and it's absolutely flyin'!!! :o
6MB/s and less than 40 mins to completion (according to Express)

Edit--the rate has now dropped to 3.4MB/s but still more than 10times faster than before. Big thanks to Alan SH :)

next time there is an update try it on a night again to see if its slow

the speed may have been throttled at busy times although if your package sates you should get a minimum of say 50 meg then you should have decent speeds at all times

This is a very good point that I'd forgotten about. I generally do all of my updating beginning at midnight-ish. Lunch and evening time traffic makes my internet connection scream to a crawl.

Are you suggesting that the map downloads TWICE for simultaneous PC and device update?

No. Most of the files are shared but there are some files unique to each and both use different map formats.
