Zumo 390 Owners Beware Installing CN EU 2023.10 NTU

Hi I have only just joined you guys, but I had to chip in. My Garmin Zumo 390 was purchased for a bike trip to Spain, covid got in the way of that. Now we are setting off on Sunday. I updated my zumo a month ago and all went well. Plugged it in last night and it told me an update was available, no problem I thought.

Sadly this update did not work, after a few attempts the only update it offered was Central and Eastern Europe, previously it had all of Europe on it. After realizing my error I contacted Garmin support. After one phone call and two chats I'm told my only option is trade and upgrade ! They will offer @30% off but on the cheapest one that is still £200. Is there no way of installing the older maps or just selecting Western Europe.

I'm feeling very unhappy with Garmin, I wished I had never tried to update it.

Rant over, any suggestions
Pat

Not sure who you spoke to at Garmin but that is rubbish.

First do you have a sd card installed? Second is your Express version up to date, if not update it. Then run Express again and choose reinstall map, it should offer an update to the full map although you may be asked to insert a sd card.

Come back when you've tried that.

I have the latest version of Garmin Express v7.13.1.0
I have now installed a microSD card and it is visible to the device.
I have reinstalled the map, but it is still the same.

No option to select a larger area, that includes the UK or Spain.
Thanks for your interest.

I have just experienced the same thing with my Zumo 390 - Garmin Express threw up a choice to fit a larger SD card (3GB) or install a smaller map, so I selected Western Europe and hit install. After the install, I have Central Europe which does not include the UK where I live or Spain, my next holiday.

I hope Garmin realise their cock up and issue new map updates soon.

I guess I could install OSM like I did with the previous Garmin, a 2610. Or just bite the bullet and get an XT.

XT is a big backward step. A 595 is better (or a 590 to upgrade to a 595.)

@biz - you're joking, aren't you? :shock:
I'm coming from a zumo 590 (modded to 595) - this units are not comparable, the zumo XT is way better than the 59x series...

Not keen on the frequency of battery connection problems with the 59x

The maps on my PC are the same set of reduced maps. I should of gone for the full set on my PC, is there no way of forcing it to update the whole map on the PC, rather than replacing the truncated set that are on the device and PC. Is it possible to revert to the older functioning map, I leave for Spain on Sunday lunchtime so I'm a bit pushed time wise. My fall back is a trusty old phone with with Locus Maps on it, but I would rather use the Garmin if I can. I have installed the Spanish OSM maps onto it but I'm not sure I trust it now.
