Show Saved Places on Main Map

I don't have Explorer configured, and do not want to.

So am I being thick or is there no way to show a favourite on the map that are,

Not part of a route
not in my up ahead categories

Turn on Up Ahead Places in Map layers.

But a long while back I discovered that when you transfer new ones, the older ones don't always show. It might have been a few updates ago though. I didn't pursue it. Give me a nudge in a couple of days time, I'll see if I made some notes.
They show up as white hearts in a green square - by default. They are also subject to a time delay - they are the last things to be drawn on the map, and may not show at all depending on the zoom level.
