How do you increase the thickness / width of the track? Thanks for your help

Hi
Welcome again.
If you have not enabled Garmin Explore on your XT - then using the XT in Landscape Mode
Track -> Track Icon, top left , Choose track, Spanner (top left), Track width.
Let me know if this method doesn't work.
If it doesn't work - do you use explore.garmin.com ???

As you say in manual mode the method does not work.
I normally use Garmin Express

You can always reset your XT to how it was when you bought it.
Settings -> Device -> Reset
Impostaz -> Dispositivo -> Reimposta
