Finding wifi problems on initial setup?

Hi all, I've had two of these in the last couple of months (the first having battery problems so it was replaced).
They both exhibited the same problem in that on initial setup they wouldn't find any wifi signal in my home, despite having a mesh system which has never failed to give a potent signal.
The first unit I overcame the problem by inputting the actual SSID of the mesh box and from that point on it worked without any problems.
The second unit, this method didn't work, but I put my mobile into tether mode and the XT sprang into life as if it needed waking up to wifi, from there it found both my mobile and the mesh.
Is this something others have found?
