I've noticed for a while that my weather Radar wasn't "playing" for a while. The single shot radar always worked fine but the animation stopped working a while ago. Not sure if it was after an upgrade from Android 10 to 11 or after an XT upgrade a few upgrades again.

It took a while to figure it out as it worked fine when sitting at home. That made me think it was something to do with mobile data as it didn't work away from home. I did some testint and ultimately I came to the conclusion that is simply didn't load or run while moving. I can be riding along and it doesn't load the history (single view always worked fine) and if I stop it loads instantly and runs while stopped.

Unless Garmin now has stopped animations for legal reasons I suspect there is a setting I may have changed.

Any suggestions where to look?

Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5g running Android 11 with all the latest updates.

It 100% works for me while in motion... on the motorcycle and in the car. iPhone 11 with all the latest everything...

I'd love to hear from more users. Is this an issue with the Android drive app or particular setup issue? Do other iPhone users have the same success as you?

I have an iPhone 11 on AT&T. I need to do more testing, but it seems it takes a long time for the radar to load period. Since this thread started I've tried to pay attention to it and I've not noticed any animation, Although I swear I can remember animation when I first got the XT.

I will keep checking in different situations and report back.

Main thing I've noticed is it load and rims the animation just find when stationery. It stops dead when you start moving.

Please let me know if this is what you see.

I will try testing this.

So after trying a it a few times I have also found that Radar Animation works normally if I’m sitting still, but if I’m moving it is a static image. Also as others, if I’m sitting still and leave the radar up with the animation going and start moving it freezes.

I’m not sure if this is by design or a glitch.

Now I am beginning to doubt my original answer!

Next time we have rain nearby, I'll jump in the car and test this out again. I was pretty sure I've done this while in motion, but maybe it was an older firmware and they've updated the code to keep us safer (boooooo!).

Son of a gun... the behavior HAS changed. I was out on the motorcycle today, pulled up the radar, scrolled over to the east where it's currently raining, and although it showed like it was loading the animation, it didn't play... until I came to a full stop. Once I had the animation going, I started up again from the red light... and the animation paused.

It did not USED to work this way. This is new behavior. I'm going to contact Garmin tomorrow and bitch them out about this.

Must be a glitch in last firmware update.
